Update: thanks so much for the feedback :) It showed me that sometimes it pays off to do something a bit different.
I'm going to try to be more creative with my photos from now on.

I honestly don't know what I think of this.

One side of me likes the way the leaves look kind of velvety, and the contrasty, graphic look.

Another side of me thinks it's too contrasty, too sharpened and really kind of vulgar.

I really just uploaded this out of interest, to see which side of me is right.


(It's an upside-down flower, with water droplets on it)

Beautiful! Seems a bit harsh but it gives a jaded, bejewelled look about it. Like nature is encrusted... o__O It's great, Nat. I know how you feel though, about the contrasts and such... I'm pretty picky too and it's hard to get... the right one. But I think you did a great job here. I have a feeling if it was any less sharp it won't be such a big statement.

I think the matter is not on how burn't or light it is, but the perspective on the shot.
It is a beautiful shot, and I can't really explain myself, but think about the perspective rather than how much you've done with contrasts with white/black.

Sometimes it's hard to know what's 'right' when you do something more radical (like how this is for me). Thanks for the detailed comment, too- it really helps to have that feedback.
